I am pleased to inform you that more or less everything is ready for this year’s most significant electricity market and investments-related event in Central and South-east Europe.
Website of Energija09 (www.energija09.si ) speaks for itself of the relevance of the selected topics and, above all, of the expertise of confirmed speakers and guests.
It is a fact that both the areas of investments in new generation capacities and investments in the renewable sector are very much affected by the financial economic crisis and that both are, therefore, facing completely new challenges, risks and dangers. Convincing arguments which would emphasize the importance of the planned investment cycle for the SE European region are deficient.
This year the economic turmoil has firmly put the question of its impact on the ongoing investment in new and renewable production capacities at the top of the agenda. How are the market participants facing the new challenges, risks and dangers of doing business in a new environment? What mechanisms are being used to off-set the effects of the crisis and maintain the cycle of investment on course? Who will invest in new power plants and who will secure the needed funds? And, how costly will energy be in the period after the crisis? These are some of the most relevant questions facing the regions’ energy sector today.
It is our strong view that market participants in south-east Europe must develop clear, convincing arguments which will emphasize the importance of continuing the planned investment cycle in the region. Through panel and round-table discussions with the representatives of the regions’ leading utilities, system operators, traders and various other stakeholders from the worlds of politics and finance, we hope to come a step closer to achieving this goal at “Energija 09”.
